Jonas Larsen was educated at the Sandberg Institute, Amsterdam, NL 1996-1998 (MFA), and the Design School of Denmark, Copenhagen, 1993-96. Larsen’s abstract images are a combination of randomness and control.
It begins with an attempt at control. However, he is well aware that he is working with a technique that cannot be fully controlled. After endless mixing and experimenting with acrylics/ink/tea/ coffee, and more, he achieves various black shades. Larsen pours some paint onto the paper, and by tilting the paper, the “paint” flows roughly the way he wants. This happens after several attempts, accepting that he has to go with the flow. It becomes “almost” what he wants. Meaning he can determine the number of lines and whether they should be lines or circles, and attempts at pattern-making.
