WHAT ARTCAN DOES
ArtCan creates opportunities for artists through exhibitions and practice development as well as peer-to-peer connections, professional recognition and access to specialist knowledge and support.
ArtCan is an artist-led, non-profit arts organisation with members across Britain and internationally. Our work is supported by the efforts of artist-member volunteers, contributions from our Founder Friends and Friends of ArtCan and with the valued guidance of our Board of Trustees.
ArtCan has expertise in producing collaborative art exhibitions in London, across Britain and internationally. Our exhibitions complement the work of established galleries by enabling talent to gain experience and skills. We work with galleries, but also seek new spaces where art becomes a part of everyday life and with the aim of involving audiences in an organic and personal way.
ArtCan’s artist-centred ethos means that our model does not involve charging membership fees or commissions on sales, to help artists focus on developing a sustainable practice.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Kate Enters is an artist, writer and curator with a background in media relations and event management. She founded ArtCan in 2013, innovatively positioning the organisation as a peer network offering artists opportunities to show work on their own terms. As director of ArtCan she draws on her ability to produce and manage art events and expertise in events management for high-end art museums, celebrity charity events and arts PR.
“Throughout my career I have had the support of volunteers on boards and committees and I believe it’s important to give back support, especially to new organisations working in new ways, such as ArtCan. As I am now retired, I have returned to painting and look forward to when we can have physical exhibitions again!”
I worked in architecture before moving to arts management. In the 1970s, I set up and ran Battersea Arts Centre. In the 1980s I was Assistant Director of Greater London Arts, following which I was a freelance arts development consultant for 37 years. Projects focused on new and redeveloped arts buildings (Hackney Empire, Chequer Mead Arts Centre, East Grinstead), but have also included business planning, organisational reviews and other management projects for a wide range of arts organisations, including Wiltshire Music Service, the Arcola Theatre, Community Arts Exchange (Brixton), Burton Art Gallery and Museum (Devon) and Pegasus Opera. I have served on the boards of Waterman’s Arts Centre and Oily Cart Children’s Theatre and I currently chair both ArtCan and Streatham Space Project.

Jo has been a trustee of ArtCan since 2018. She wears many hats within the art world and is thrilled to bring her network to benefit ArtCan and its members. She is director of the Ingram Collection of Modern British & Contemporary Art. In 2020, she launched her first podcast series ‘Sculpting Lives’, supported by the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art. Jo is also a former director of Christie’s UK and a Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts.

Tabish Khan is an art critic specialising in London’s art scene. He visits and writes about hundreds of exhibitions a year, has served on selection panels for prestigious events including The Other Art Fair and the ING Discerning Eye, and held conversations with artists. He is a frequent participant in panel discussions on art collecting, online art and writing about art. Tabish is visual arts editor for Londonist and a regular contributor for FAD with the weekly columns ‘Top exhibitions to see in London’ and ‘What’s wrong with art?’. While art is Tabish’s primary focus, he has written about film, theatre and food as well.
“I always say that everything I know of any value comes from consuming the arts in some form, with visual arts being of particular importance. In addition, my other passions are coaching – specifically supporting the artists who inspire us and help us to see the world in a different way – and the power of collaboration. That is why for me, ArtCan is the most perfect organisation for me to be involved with.”
Deborah Henry-Pollard is a creative coach working internationally with artists at all career stages through her company, Catching Fireworks. Her book on coaching, ‘What’s Your Excuse for not Succeeding as an Artist?’, was published in 2018 by WYE Books. As a public speaker, she has worked with organisations including Sotheby’s Fine Art Institute; Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize; West Dean College; Cass Art; Roy’s Art Fair; Wimbledon Art Studios; and the Association of Women Art Dealers. She brings to ArtCan her arts-specific coaching and mentoring skills; professional experience working across the arts, charity and retail sectors; as well as extensive experience as a trustee of organisations including Southwark Arts Forum and Studio Voltaire.
“It is extremely rewarding for me to sit on the board of ArtCan, to which I bring the financial know-how and decision-making skills acquired through my career in finance. Art has always captivated me, but it is through my involvement with ArtCan and witnessing the passion and creative talent amongst our artists that I now appreciate the value that contemporary art can bring to all our lives.”
Richard Nicholls is a chartered accountant and a former director at a leading European investment bank. He is currently studying for a master’s degree in environmental economics and climate change at LSE, embarking on a change of career that allows him to spend more time with his young family.
Amina Mona is a senior project and partnerships manager with a range of experience across the public, not-for-profit, private and corporate sectors. As an arts consultant, she is currently managing curatorial, sales and partnership projects in the UK and abroad. Amina previously worked at DContemporary gallery where she launched the gallery’s Annual Prize promoting and showcasing young, contemporary talent. Her professional background includes working with the Natural History Museum and a number of other national charities, where she managed projects and programmes focused on culture, income generation and relationship building.
Amina is trained in archaeology, with postgraduate studies in art law and policy. She is also a Royal Society of Arts Fellow. In her spare time, she teaches Greek as a foreign language and supports stray-animal charities in the Balkans and Greece.
“My involvement as a trustee of ArtCan is incredibly rewarding as it allows me to develop my own leadership skills while bringing my fundraising and financial skills to the Board. I believe art is synonymous with civilisation itself, as so many aspects of society are portrayed and preserved in a form that is beyond words alone. Experiencing the passion and enthusiasm of ArtCan’s talented network has made me appreciate the importance of developing and promoting emerging artists to ensure that the creative world continues to thrive.”
Georgia Lord is an Anti-Financial Crime Investigations Manager with eight years’ experience in the legal and banking sector. She holds a BA in ancient history, a master’s degree in law and is currently working towards an Msc in compliance and regulation.
Georgia is a classically trained ballerina and in her spare time she is an avid supporter of performing arts. Georgia has led several campaigns for charitable causes, raising over £10,000 in personal fundraising efforts in the past decade. Georgia joined ArtCan in 2018 as the fundraising trustee with the primary responsibility of helping fund the organisation’s growth.
Spirit de la Mare

Spirit de la Mare has had a portfolio career in culture and public relations, most recently working with the Southbank Centre on campaigns for large institutions including the Hayward Gallery, Hayward Gallery Touring, Arts Council Collection, London Literature Festival and Poetry International.
Both her career and professional associations reflect a deep, personal commitment to culture, and particularly to art and writing. In addition to being an ArtCan trustee, she is a Royal Society of Arts Fellow and the Chair of Kingsgate Workshops Trust, a complex of affordable art studios. In 2019, Spirit became a Founding Friend of the Mansion Cottage Bookshop at Kenwood House. She is also an Arts Scholar of the Worshipful Company of Arts Scholars and a Freeman of the Company of Entrepreneurs who represents the Company as an ambassador in the arts, creative and cultural sectors. Spirit is a member of the Roedean School Council and Governor of the school which boasts a vast, artistic alumni.
