Welcome to BRIDGE 2024
“There really are so many positives it’s hard to do it justice in a few words. An all-round super project to be part of… I have to think hard about things that could be improved.” ~ Melanie
Building on last year’s success of BRIDGE2023 in Sweden, the curators are proud to present BRIDGE2024 – a long-term artistic collaboration between ArtCan (UK) and ÖSKG (Sweden). It will take place at Downstairs at The Department Store in multicultural Brixton in South London. This year, twenty-six artists put together into pairs will showcase their shared creative and personal journey through thirteen joint installations in this historical building.
The focus of BRIDGE is to connect across literal and metaphorical borders and to break down cultural, social and political barriers. Using Brixton’s historical past and present as a backdrop, curators Pernilla Iggstrom and Christel Lundberg, will present their art intervention MUG which is based on interviews with people who live and/or work in Brixton.
A warm welcome to join us on this journey!

THE CURATORS
Pernilla Iggström (ArtCan)
Pernilla Iggström is a Swedish artist and curator based in Brentwood, Essex, England. She received her BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting from City & Guilds of London Art School in 2011. Iggström’s art practice (oil painting, collage and performance art) and curatorial investigations are both an exploration into cultural identity from a nature/nurture point of view. The focus is on diversity, inclusion and community. She hopes her art will inspire the viewer to reflect on their own cultural heritage, increase an understanding of others and thereby break down stereotypical and pre-conceived impressions.
