Jane Higginbottom

Jane Higginbottom was educated at Chelsea School of Art and became a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors and shortlisted for the Brian Mercer Award in 2016.

Plants and the natural world are now the main focus of her work and she uses plant materials at most stages of her practice from concept to completion. This ties in with sustainability, using local plant materials which Higginbottom collects or grows in order to create minimum waste.

Weaving is also becoming increasingly important and she uses plant-based yarn but also fleece which she is learning how to spin.

Her work responds directly to places, and the colours she uses come directly from the land via natural plant dyes. She feels that she makes better work when there is a strong link to place and with the meetings and conversations that collaborations open up.
