UK and French Art Organisations Team Up for Notre Temps | Our Time Virtual Exhibition

6th – 26th September 2021
Virtual Private View: 6th September 2021 @ 18.00 GMT

This virtual exhibition is the happy result of a partnership between ArtCan and two French art organisations: La Condamine and La Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. Both as a joint curatorial endeavour and as an exhibition, Notre Temps | Our Time is a genuine celebration of working together across borders in the context of the isolation that characterises our current climate. Notre Temps | Our Time hopes to reflect the very best contemporary art from La Condamine and ArtCan members, and to be an object lesson on the transcendent qualities of creative purpose and passion.

The Gallery
ArtCan are launching their own virtual gallery to celebrate this collaborative exhibition. A virtual space that enables ArtCan to develop their hybrid model of exhibiting, which provides both offline and online programming and viewing opportunities. Initially, the hybrid model was a response to the limitations of COVID-19. However, in recommitting to its online reach ArtCan has seen its involvement with both its membership and audience broaden and deepen and for these reasons will remain.

About ArtCan
ArtCan is an artist-led, non-profit arts organisation with members across Britain and internationally. ArtCan’s work is supported by the efforts of artist-member volunteers, contributions from Founder Friends and Friends of ArtCan and with the valued guidance of the Board of Trustees.

ArtCan has expertise in producing collaborative art exhibitions in London, across Britain and internationally. The exhibitions complement the work of established galleries by enabling talent to gain experience and skills. ArtCan work with galleries, but also seeks new spaces where art becomes a part of everyday life and with the aim of involving audiences in an organic and personal way.

ArtCan’s artist-centred ethos means that the model does not involve charging membership fees or commissions on sales, to help artists focus on developing a sustainable practice.

About La Condamine:
La Condamine is a community of artist-entrepreneurs whose mission is to develop innovative solutions that enable creatives to make a living from their art.

Today, the success of an artist is determined by an ability to communicate about their work, to promote it and to seize opportunities. For this reason, La Condamine offer personalised coaching to members in the form of training and consulting services, with the aim of structuring creative projects to meet commercial and strategic objectives. La Condamine gives its artists the tools to achieve success and creative autonomy, allowing them to bypass the traditional intermediaries. Thanks to our expertise, members have access to methods used by successful companies.

La Condamine proactively stimulates exchanges, experience sharing and the creation of opportunities by actively bringing different profiles within its community together (artists, art market professionals) with the aim of helping artist develop a viable economical structure around their art.

About La Société Nationale des Beaux Arts (The National Society for the Fine Arts) – SNBA
The SNBA is an association of French artists founded by Théophile Gautier in 1861, to break with the official Salon, with the intention of being open to all artistic expressions, and in his words to “make art independent and teach artists to manage their affairs themselves”. The newly formed SNBA counted Meissonnier, Puvis de Chavannes, Dalou, Carolus-Duran, Gervex, Rodin, Béraud, Cazin, Dagnan-Bouveret and Besnard among its founding members. The Society’s first salon, held in 1890 at the Palais du Champ de Mars was a triumph. Today, the SNBA is presided over by Michel King, Official Painter to the French Navy. It maintains its tradition of encouraging and supporting all artists and of holding its trademark exhibition, the Salon des Beaux Arts, every year.

Quote from Arthur Bouvyer – Co-Founder La Condamine
“It has been a pleasure for me and my colleagues at La Condamine to work with a dedicated and passionate person such as Kate Enters. The works submitted by both artist communities were of an amazing quality, which made selection incredibly hard. In challenging times, dissent often trumps common sense, but Notre Temps|Our Time demonstrates just the opposite.
I hope many people will enjoy finding out about the selected artists and developing new connections between our two countries.”

Quote from Isabelle Lawson – General Director La Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts
“The artworks in this show are quite diverse and reflective of the universal and yet many-faceted nature of human experience that knows no borders. I was very happy and proud to be asked to help curate this show and hope that it contributes to a better world where art is recognised as essential.”
