21st – 24th May 2024
Private View: 21st May @ 18.30 BST
Curators: Caroline Wheaton – Miranda Barber – Kate Enters – Rita Carta Manias
International non-profit arts organisation ArtCan is launching a new group exhibition, The Shape of Things to Come at Gallery 475, Fulham Road, London.
“A sculptor is a person obsessed with the form and the shape of things, and it’s not just the shape of any one thing, but the shape of anything and everything.” Henry Moore
Running from the 21st to 24th May, the show will celebrate how ArtCan member artists explore the theme of shape and form; the infinite possibilities which arise when shape and form are subject to adaptation and change in the hands of an artist. The gallery will be open Tuesday to Friday between 10am – 6pm.
The exhibition private view will take place on Tuesday 21st May from 6.30pm – 8pm, with registration via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/shape-of-things-to-come-exhibition-private-view-tickets-881783547327?aff=oddtdtcreator
Curator Caroline Wheaton says: “I was initially drawn to sculpture over a decade ago by the sheer variety and mix of skills that the different types of sculpture require. Within the ArtCan community we are lucky to have a huge body of talent, so it is a delight to be able to work with this brilliant team of curators to showcase a suitably diverse mix of materials and subject matter in Fulham this spring.”
And curator Miranda Barber added: “I am pleased to be a part of the team to curate The Shape of Things to Come, an exhibition which focuses on the myriad of different styles and forms created by some of the accomplished sculptors within the ArtCan community”

About the Curators
Miranda Barber is a self-taught sculptor drawn to revealing the beauty of the human form whilst also conveying the emotions often held within. Her work has been increasingly drawn to abstraction, focussing on the torso and its seemingly infinite possibilities for interesting shape, drama and expression.
She was born and raised in the Bahamas and now works from her studio in south London, sculpting in clay, wax and stone and also casting her work in bronze and bronze resin. She is represented by SculptGallery and is also an experienced Exhibition Manager and curator.
Caroline Wheaton is a self-taught, British-born artist and sculptor living and working in London (UK) and Chamonix (France). Fascinated by anatomy and physiology, her sculpture centres on all things human: how we are put together, what makes us tick, how we adapt to our wider environment, how we portray ourselves…..past & present. She has travelled widely over the decades and, to a large extent, those travel experiences inform her work. Her sculpture is a broad mix of carved stone and cast materials (principally metal and resins) and, in many cases, a combination of the two.
She has exhibited as a solo artist in both London & Chamonix and also participated in numerous group exhibitions in the UK and Europe. She is an experienced Exhibition Manager and curator.
Kate Enters is passionate about supporting artists and is the founder and director of ArtCan, an international arts organisation providing opportunities and fair payment for artists. She creates an annual exhibition programme at venues in the UK and overseas, honed through her background in events management for high end art museums, celebrity charity events and arts PR. Over the last decade she has developed this community of artists and art supporters across 26 countries, built international corporate partnerships and during the pandemic worked with a designer to create a bespoke virtual art gallery. ArtCan has been awarded Most Empowering Artist Opportunity Provider – UK for the past two years and is a member of Social Enterprise UK and the Global Climate Coalition.
Kate works at the prize-winning London architecture practice, Stanton Williams, is an experienced curator, a figurative artist and regularly writes about art.
Rita Carta-Manias: An independent curator and culture promoter, originally from Sardinia, living in London since 2004, Rita gained a BA Hons degree in History of Art (Birkbeck University, London), focusing on Italian Renaissance and Baroque period and completed a Masters in Creative Industries (Contemporary Art) at London Southbank University. Her involvement with the arts and culture is varied, spacing across the UK & Italy. Rita is an enthusiastic supporter and Operational Manager at ArtCan and an active advocate in fostering collaborations and new opportunities for its artist members via networking activities and cultural events.
