Jonas Rooth

Glass artist educated at the Glass School in Orrefors, West Surrey College of Art and Craft in England and a MFA from Konstfack in Stockholm 1989-94, as well as assistant positions in glass studios and with Monika Backström and Kjell Engman at Boda glassworks. Rooth has run his own glass studio since 1993, relocating in 2015 to Maglehem in east Skane. During the years 2010-2019, Rooth worked as a senior lecturer in crafts and was responsible for the crafts departments at the University of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg. Rooth’s works are characterised by richness of colour and complexity where the objects are made up of many separate parts. This is both for the expression itself and for the possibility of being able to go up in scale. The main inspiration for Rooth is partly in the classical splendour where he works with chandeliers, sconces and objects.

Another source of inspiration for Rooth is nature and its complex expressions which can be both beautiful, but at the same time also terrifying.
