14th – 19th September 2021
Private View: 19th September 2021 @ 18.00 GMT
Originally planned for the summer of 2020, ArtCan’s Set in Stone exhibition is set to open in September. Although the show’s works were shared last autumn in a virtual show, we are delighted to be bringing them together as originally intended in the lovely 44AD gallery, in Bath.
For this group exhibition, ArtCan artists were invited to respond to the theme ‘Set in Stone’. It is a phrase which is highly context dependent. Before this conclusion or terminus is reached, it may generate impetus, focus and a sense of urgency. When a plan or idea crosses this threshold, whether figurative or literal, it can signify either limiting guardrail or a milestone for the journey ahead.
The Artists:
Aisling Drennan – Anil Mistry – Anna Marie Savage – Bob Barron – Catherine Sweet – Emma Hill – Geraldine Molia – Hedy Parry Davies – Jean Gillespie – Kira Phoenix K’inan – Laura Parker – Lawrence Mathias – Lesley Oldaker – Sal Jones – Simon Probyn
Curator’s quote:
“After a long wait, I am delighted that Set in Stone will finally be showing in the 44AD gallery space. While the concept of something as ‘set in stone’ may have elicited a very different notion when originally planned, the responding works have continued to be relevant. From structural and geometric to abstract and organic works, the exhibition raises questions about what decays and what endures over time.”
About the curator:
Jen Wiggle is a curator and photographer whose education and background in theatre informs her approach to putting exhibitions together. This involves considering the whole gallery and how individual artworks interact with each other and the space, to create an immersive scene rather than a series of segmented, frontal views.
About the gallery
Located in the city centre, 44AD Artspace is one of Bath’s leading contemporary visual arts venues. The gallery has two floors of exhibition space and a studio programme of community driven art exhibitions and associated events.
