Cat Sweet for ArtCan
The London Art Fair takes over the Business Design Centre in Angel every January with a mixture of classic and contemporary art from a great selection of galleries, plus a cutting edge collection of art projects.
Top picks this time around included works from David Wightman with Long & Ryle – Herculine II is a large acrylic and collaged wallpaper mountain piece that popped with colour among a collection of mostly beige in the main collection. Peter Demetz presented great sculptures breaking the fourth wall of the art world, and Ian Berry showed a fantastic series of works made entirely with recycled denim with Catto Gallery.
Sue Arrowsmith also presented a lovely selection of delicate leaves in watercolour and acrylic, with Purdy Hicks Gallery (check out her Instagram feed for some great action shots of her at work).
Lemon Street Gallery brought a strong collection as usual, including gorgeous oil on canvas work from Andrew Gifford, plus AfterNyne Gallery presented a lovely collection including ArtCan artists Tom Wilmott and Nick Grindrod. You could also find Catherine Pickop flying the ArtCan flag this time.
If you missed this installment, you can join the London Art Fair mailing list to make sure you get your annual dose of arty inspiration next time around.
