The October edition of the Affordable Art Fair brought a welcome slice of cheer to a quite dreary world this weekend, with a good mixture of old favourites and some bright newcomers showing with an eclectic mix of galleries at Battersea Evolution.

Tim J. Fowler was live painting in the lobby, Loz Atkinson was showing alongside him with Studio Name from Leicester with her new imagined nebulas and circular canvases highlighting interesting new geometry, Louise McNaught was back with George Thornton and Fran Giffard brought along more of her colourful birds painted on moleskin diary pages too.

Patrick Donnell

The moon was a popular feature this time around, given the anniversary of the moon landing this year, including in lovely work from Patrick O’Donnell as part of his New Horizons series, and in beautifully simple wooden wall hanging sculpture from Daniel Mirchev with Cube Gallery, which made the most of low lighting to create shadows that were as much a part of the piece as the grain of the wood.

Laura Fishman

ArtCan artists on the roster this time included Laura Fishman with Mint Gallery, showcasing her abstract pours in lovely new circular formats, Tom Willmott and Nick Grindrod with After Nyne Gallery, and Despina Symeou with her figurative pieces displayed at contemporArti.

The show also featured regular favourites Dana Wyse, with her selection of witty pills and injections, Kim Kwan Soo with soothing and meditative trompe l’oeil pieces and Damilola Odusote with a great selection of new 3D light-up work. There was also some inventive and colourful work from PT Tiersky, displaying a series of wall mounted sculptures using collage, acrylic, raw pigment and a variety of textural mediums.

All in, a very fun show – the Fair has learned not to take itself too seriously, and visitors are all the more grateful for this right now! If you missed this edition, keep an eye on https://affordableartfair.com/ for their next show coming to a town near you.
