Why ‘Pink Panther’ as a theme for an international group exhibition?
It is in honour of Peter Sellers, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday in September.
The late Richard Henry Sellers was a British comedian and film actor. The specialist for appearances in a wide variety of roles and disguises became known at the latest as Inspector Clouseau in the film series “The Pink Panther”. The pink comic character Paulchen Panter, which was created especially for this film series, became just as well known. In the film, Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau has to catch a jewel thief and the stolen goods are a diamond, a pink diamond. The diamond is called the “Pink Panther” because the flaw in its middle is said to resemble a jumping pink panther when looked at closely.
It’s not all pink – let’s create new works of art, it gives us a chance to show what we think, feel or have to say. Art is our mouthpiece with which we can communicate and inspire, but also criticize and point out.
The name Vienna Calling is a song title by our Viennese singer Falco, we began with this title in 2018. This was followed by Vienna Calling II with the exhibition theme of a Beatles song ‘All you need is Love’ in 2020, and for Vienna Calling III in 2022 we chose ‘Take a Chance on Me’, a song title by the great pop group ABBA, when they were in their 50th anniversary year.
ATELIER COOLPOOL
The studio, founded in 2013, is located in the center of the ever-growing artists’ district and is located in the 15th district of Vienna at 13 Markgraf-Rüdiger-Straße, an avenue bordered with old trees that leads to the nearby Kriemhildplatz, the center of the Nibelungenviertel. The artist collective Daisy Gold and Manfredo Weihs deals with the connection and combination of the art forms of painting and photography. Two art forms – two artists – two different perspectives and approaches. What is important to them is experimentation, learning and further development in the constant search for something new.
ARTCAN
ArtCan is a non-profit organisation supporting contemporary artists through a vibrant and exciting exhibition programme. The aim at ArtCan is to promote fair payment of artists: when you purchase a piece at an ArtCan event, you deal directly with the artists and they receive 100% of the payment. The organisation’s ongoing objective is to create, promote, maintain and improve opportunities for contemporary artists without compromise to their artistic exploration and development. ArtCan functions on a membership basis. It is open to all fine artists and creative practitioners. Members support and engage with one another through collaboration, communication and networking. In this way they facilitate and enable exciting exhibition and project opportunities.
