ArtCan Green Team

The ArtCan Green Team’s aim is to inform and create a platform for environmentally inspired ArtCan artists to exhibit, with themed exhibitions and events curated by the Team.
We are not environmental experts or scientists, just artists with a passion for the planet and the desire to keep a lively conversation going between ArtCan artists and the public. Art has always had an important role commenting on society and behaviour. As a team, we also share a sense of urgency to keep human rights, often affected as a result of climate change, in the public domain.

In 2021, Kate Enters and Rita Carta Manias asked Hannah Pratt, Laurence Mathias and myself, Catherine Fenton, to form the Green Team to support active membership of the Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC). The GCC is an international community of arts organisations working to reduce our sector’s environmental impacts.
Inevitably when you have three passionate artists in the same space, projects begin to happen, and we soon collaborated on an installation piece, curated environmentally focussed exhibitions and arranged diverse online talks from art activism to green financial investment.

In 2024 we invited Cat Coulter and Elly Platt to join us, and we have continued to work together, recently supporting Lawrence at the Creative ClimateFest in Wales this summer with an ArtCan artists installation Growing Under One Sky.
We decided this was a really good time, with COP30 underway, to move our content into public view. Hannah, Lawrence, Elly, Cat and I will be taking it in turns to share a project we are involved in, or one that has inspired us. We will also be inviting a guest editor twice a year. If you have something you’d like to share, please get in touch with the “Green Team” via info@artcan.org.uk
