BRIDGE

‘Connecting across physical and metaphorical borders’

Ten Swedish and ten international artists collaborate on a series of art installations, in order to blur cultural, social and political barriers.

BRIDGE is the result of a speed networking exercise between curators Pernilla Iggstrom and Christel Lundberg at Stockholm Supermarket Art Fair in May 2022.

We clicked at first sight!” Pernilla says of their first encounter. Both curators for artist-led organisations, London based ArtCan and Sweden based ÖSKG/Tjörnedala, found their organisations shared similar ethos – to sustain artists practice and with a focus on diversity.

An ongoing dialogue led to the formation of BRIDGE where ten artists selected from each group, paired together without ever having met, were asked to communicate via e-mails, video calls and messages. They were invited to connect across literal and metaphorical borders to create an installation that focuses on the journey rather than the end result.

On 18th November, the doors will open to the public at Tjörnedala Konsthall, Baskemölla, in Southern Sweden where the ten installations that span glass, painting, sculpture and other forms of disciplines, will be revealed.

In 2024, BRIDGE will then exhibit new installations in London, and the year after they will be back in Sweden. This long term collaboration focuses on diversity, inclusion and understanding, and aims to build bridges between different countries through art.

When Kate Enters founded ArtCan ten years ago, it was to support and sustain artists practices. “Never would I dream that ArtCan would grow into such an international self-sustainable platform, offering artists a voice. Our collaboration with ÖSKG is a beautiful and unique project that has resulted in friendships being built across borders.”
