Celebrating ten years of The National Brain Appeal’s A Letter in Mind exhibition, join leading artists and celebrities in creating art on envelopes to support NHS hospital
This year marks ten years of The National Brain Appeal’s art fundraiser, A Letter in Mind, where the charity asks artists to get creative on an envelope. The theme of this year’s exhibition is ‘Changing Perspectives’, to acknowledge patients and families who often experience a changed outlook on life after a diagnosis of a neurological condition.
Artworks will be exhibited at Gallery Different in Fitzrovia, central London, and sold via the charity’s online gallery, from 24-28 October 2023, previewing on 23 October. They will be exhibited anonymously, priced identically at £85. The identity of the artist is revealed at the end of the exhibition, once the artwork has sold. All proceeds from sales will help to transform lives for the millions of people affected by neurological and neuromuscular conditions in the UK.
Sir Grayson Perry, who has taken part several times over the last decade, said: “It is wonderful to see The National Brain Appeal’s A Letter in Mind going from strength to strength and marking its tenth anniversary this year. Creating an artwork on an envelope is a simple and lovely way to support the NHS. There’s a layer of intrigue too, with the artist behind each piece remaining anonymous until their work is sold. It is also accessible, with all pieces priced identically at £85, and the money raised going towards helping people with neurological conditions and supporting vital projects at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.”
A Letter in Mind has attracted high-profile artists and celebrities since it launched in 2014. Curator Eva Tait said: “Over the last decade, A Letter in Mind has raised more than £250,000 for those with neurological conditions. We are incredibly grateful to every artist that has taken part and to everyone who has bought artworks. To celebrate our ten-year anniversary, we want to make this our most successful exhibition to date, and are calling on artists to get involved and help us achieve this.”
