ArtCan Artists Debut in Stockholm at Supermarket Art Fair

Supermarket 2021, Stockholm Independent Art Fair
Fabrication of Self : ArtCan’s Presentation at Supermarket 2021
14th – 17th October 2021

We are thrilled to share that ArtCan will participate in Supermarket 2021, Stockholm Independent Art Fair. Supermarket is an international, artist-run art fair showcasing artists’ initiatives from all over the world, with the aim of sharing the passion and vitality of the independent art world.

Supermarket had its genesis in 2006 as an art ‘mini-market’ organised by a small group of artists in response to the first edition of Market Art Fair, a major Nordic commercial art fair, and has since evolved into a fully-fledged, independent art fair.

ArtCan’s presentation is the collaborative proposal that emerged from a members’ open call, and includes the work of KV Duong, Lesley Oldaker, Ellen Zaks, Katherine Felice and Rachel Maggart, with curation and participation by Christine Manderla and Pernilla Iggstrom.

The stand has been christened ‘Fabrication of Self’ — our response to the Supermarket 2021 theme of ‘Shapeshifting’. ArtCan’s presentation is an interactive space where visitors are challenged to question how and when they shapeshift between their true and fabricated selves, and the consequent impacts on our true selves, our relationships and our potentials. Visitors are invited to interact with the installation and to become a central part of the creative expression.

About ArtCan
ArtCan is an artist-led, non-profit arts organisation with members across Britain and internationally. ArtCan’s work is supported by the efforts of artist-member volunteers, contributions from Founder Friends and Friends of ArtCan and with the valued guidance of the Board of Trustees.

ArtCan has expertise in producing collaborative art exhibitions in London, across Britain and internationally. The exhibitions complement the work of established galleries by enabling talent to gain experience and skills. ArtCan work with galleries, but also seeks new spaces where art becomes a part of everyday life and with the aim of involving audiences in an organic and personal way.

ArtCan’s artist-centred ethos means that the model does not involve charging membership fees or commissions on sales, to help artists focus on developing a sustainable practice.
